cigarette case or card holder age please

Hi all was wondering how old this card holder or cigarette case is please also should I leave it or try and give a polish size is 90mm x 70mm has metal stamped on tab

 

Cigarette case. Probably brass or something. No clear idea of age, except OLD. You can polish it if you want.

 

The cigarette case has had a hard life. These are useful now though for carrying business cards and aspirins etc.

i've never seen old silver look like that...so...nice polish job !

 

thanks k took me almost an hour I reckon to polish this small thing it was caked. silver plated i believe but still a good finish haven't done inside not sure if that's original finish or not looks like it's been spray painted gold thoughts are welcome c

 

called a gold wash i believe.....and it looks nice so no need to mess with it....

can we see the markings.....

 

no markings just says metal on the small tab at opening there were some slight rust spots so believe it to be plated

What did you use to polish it?

 

It looks like it might say something additional above the METAL (but in such tiny letters I can't read it.) Getting a look at deciphering that might help ID the maker (if you want to know) or country.

 

started by hand that lasted 2 minutes so used my dremel with polishing pad and compound then by hand to get swirls etc out

looks amazing! just wondering if it is safe to use the hot water baking soda treatment on mine (see below). on the inside it has a EPNS mark on one end and a W*M Terolf mark on the opposite end. tried searching for terolf but nothing came up. anyone has any idea if it could be the maker's initials or company name?

I've learnt to be careful mechanical polishing as thin plating can be removed I always now hand polish where I can this case seemed to be plated well so no issues with mechanical means
