Coffee Grinder barn find

Went to a garage sale out in the country and found a few nice pieces. I asked the seller if there might be more stuff in the out buildings-inside one was this grinder.
A $12 classic barn find- never hurts to ask !
This is a C.S. Bell Model No. 1 1/2 coffee or corn grinder.Someone cleaned off part of the black over-paint, revealing the orig red. The mounting board looks like a 50's piece-it's got that old school MCM TV Western look.
At first I thought it might be a repro but then looked into the grind hole and saw definite age.Things dang heavy for mailing (18.8 Lbs), but I couldn't leave it at that price.

Shipping that will be a beast, but I'd have bought it too if I could lift it.

 

Coffee in the AM-I believe it actually could still grind some beans. Def a fun 'throwback' find-the kind of things antique stores had when I was a wee one.
Yep-just couldn't leave it sitting there, BUT glad I started doing some strength training 6 mos ago (no joke) !

A friend of mine is looking for an antique coffee grinder because he wants to go off grid. Unfortunately even the humble ones cost a fortune overhere. This one would suit him nicely, as a true Brabander he lives on coffee.

 

but that price for coffee......... damn it's high.....!

 

I wish I could send it to him but can't even imagine what postage & tariffs would cost !
How do we calculate Tariffs anyway ?
PS- Make sure your friend takes his blood pressure every now and then. 5-6 cups a day was contributing to my hypertension-you get to a certain age and it just jumps on you.

 

My cousin is still using the one that my great-grandparents had in their farm kitchen. It had to be manual crank, because electricity didn't come through that area until the 1930s. My aunt had it before that and used it too. Still works like a charm.
