Colonial era chairs?

    No, not colonial, more like mid 19th century (1850) or later ladder backs.

    I’ve never done the rush. They are very brittle. Could they be original?

    It's possible i guess, the seats look to be in very good condition.

    Your first chair looks like it "borrowed" some design elements from the Shakers, that "bowling pin" finial was used by the shakers in Canterbury NH. You can ID the different shaker villages by those finials, they were all unique to a particular village.
