    Billy, I'm with Komo on this: a portable (or "pocket") ashtray. I guess they were part of the smoke anywhere/anytime generation...

    I saw an ad that Benson & Hedges even had one you could get for free when you bought their brand:

    There apparently were plain ones & ones with all sorts of things on the top.

    By the way, it looks to me as if yours is brass, not copper.

    Hercule Poirot used to use one in the Agatha Christie series on the BBC, in the 20's. Looked quite suave but must have made your jacket stink :cigar::hungover:
