Heavy copper with a central, 4-1/2 inch steel flue. 30 inches tall. 18 inches in diameter. Top has a copper float. Bottom has a concavity. It's heavy.

Auctioneer called it part of a still, just to put a name on it. I think it has a steam-ish look to it and would enjoy tracking down the original application.

    Any ideas?

Looks like a water heater tank. I don't think the float goes to it.

I didn't like the float ball being in there either. Maybe it was just jammed in as more scrap copper. I may try to weasel it out tomorrow.

The bottom looks like a burner, but that disc is just a spreader, I'm guessing to direct the heat to the steel. It's had some heat, but doesn't look like really intense heat.

All the pipe fitting penetrations go to the interior of the tank.

Some guys in the area worked at Anheiser-Busch in St louis. A brewing application is another possibility. (A mine would be the coolest.)
