problem was that these people had to start at zero after they were driven out due to some articles of the Beneš decrees (especially article 108) and were not allowed to keep contact to the old working places.
then there was the hostility of the Bavarian population - themslves the biggest Nazis ever.
technicalwise they had to find good sources for sand and chemical elements.
there was certainly a problem that their old styles were not en vogue anymore and that nobody outside Germany bought anything German anymore in bigger quantities.
the biggest problem - with anything, cars, bikes, toys etc. - started fully in the 50s with the imported Asian crap. especially Japan flooded the markets with products for prices that didn't cover the production costs with the only goal to destroy foreign markets.
no wonder then that it was trial and error to find new customers.

so, I had another look at the small plasic bag the coral ring was in. I remember now that I collected what was lying around in a hurry before the legacy tax guy showed up and lateron showed it to a jeweler in the city center.
    bag1 (922x1024).jpg bag2 (1008x1024).jpg bag3 (684x1024).jpg
I scribbled a few notes and they gave me the approximate values after a guy looked at a few with the refractometer etc..
coral ring 3000.- (all values in Swiss Francs)
    green tourmaline 2000.-
    onix 800.-
    pearls 500.-
    0.70 ct brilliant 4500.-
completely forgot about it for 10 years.:hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

Now THAT is a bag I wouldn't mind finding hidden in a drawer! The value on the pearls may be down a lot now, but the rest could be interesting to research. :greedy::greedy::greedy:
