    hi guys

found these two sets of earrings today, thought they looked ok for 50p each.

    anything interesting?

dont know what the stones are on the roughly made pair(cold)

dont know how to describe the other pair

    no markings

    the hooks were added

    The stones look like agate.

Cylinder ones look Victorian with newer wires and are very nicely done. Agate/carnelian possibly Indian.

Thanks Aj, I'm quite surprised they are that old actually, I couldn't quite put my finger on the style. will try and give them a little clean, just to get a idea of what the metal colour is

One of the tube earrings seems to have a different bead at the bottom. It looks like a faux pearl with the outer layer worn away. I wonder if this pair is from the general region of Afghanistan-India. I'll have to rummage around in my memory.:D
They are certainly old, nice authentic wear too.:)

Cool, yeah I did wonder about that, I thought the little bead might be ivory

Will post a pic after giving them a little clean

I actually thought the cylinders were British: they've that late 19th aesthetic look.

They do, but British ones would be more likely to have an attached ball shaped finial instead of a separate bead.:)

Good job, and good that you didn't overdo it.:)
I think the tubes could be silver, and possibly the top beads as well. You know someone with a silver test set, right?
The wires, including the hooks, are either replacements or something the craftsperson had in a box. In parts of Asia they often used whatever was in stock at the time, never mind the material.;)

i got a good tip from someone that cigarette ash is good for cleaning silver, and it seems to works great:cigar::cigar:

I think the bottom circled part is caused by crimping the metal to make it fit in the ring.
