It is a Curious Japanesse button. I'm supposing that it is from japan due the carving stile. But I'm not sure about her use or age. Could it be produced for exportation or is it created to use in japan?

    Thanks.

It's elephant ivory and could have been carved in a number of countries.

It is a lovely, antique Japanese manju netsuke, made for local use.
Manjus are shaped like buttons but often slightly more puffy. They are called after Japanese rice cakes which have the same shape (minus toggle bit at the back).
Many manju netsuke were carved after one of the great fires of Edo, to have a quick replacement for the more elaborate netsuke lost in the fire.
    Manju netsuke are typical Japanese.

For comparison, a manju netsuke I sold a few years ago, with a very Japanese theme, Benzaiten the Goddess of music:

I think this could be just a button - what size is it?
