IMG_6026.JPG IMG_6028.JPG I have a small wooden box 12” x 8” x 6”. In the lid are three slats. They don’t seem to be needed to strengthen the lid. I’m wondering what they are for? Were they intended to hold something?

To help keep the lock/latch aligned so that they "mate" when closed. Wood moves and in that configuration, any movement at all no matter how slight would render the lock useless.

The slats are set in grooves and the middle one could slide out. I wondered if they could be to hold papers?
