Cute or ugly knickknack?

I picked this up in a curio shop in Watervliet, NY many years ago. It has long gone out of business, but I couldn't pass up this unusual figurine. It looks like an animal of some sort made out of squashes. It's 3.5" long and 4.5" tall at the ears. It says "MADE IN JAPAN" in black block letters on the bottom. Google Lens showed 3 photos, but were all from the same website "Galagher Clan".
Just sharing, but any constructive comments appreciated.

Things that make you go hmmm . . .

When I was a little kid, my mom hung a small 3 tier knick knack shelf in my room. It was for things like this that I picked up along the way. and kid priced.

 

IMHO-Cute and actually in a weird way 'Artsy'.

 

Yeah...with heavy emphasis on weird!
