Very cute, I'd grab it too! Perhaps to hold jewelry (rings, ear-rings, etc) on a dresser/dresser tray?

Cute! You don't give dimensions, but could it be a salt dip?

    Interesting, thanks for the ideas

The cup part is 1 3/8 inner diameter

So probably is too small to be an eggcup

    THat's adorable. And I'd think late 19th, given it's a proper Siamese.

    Thanks anund

    Interesting

I was thinking there might have been top part/lid to the wool ball, but his/her paws cover over the top

    The plot thickens

The Only RGN reference I can find is for a Registered General Nurse

Don't know if that has any possible connections

I think the RGN Means Registration Number applied for.

Cat + yarn. He's a little pin cushion that's lost his stuffing. Here's a newer example of lesser quality. Lots of other examples out there.

Ah that makes more sense, I did think it was like a patent applied for, but could find anything with rgn applied for

    Another great possibility, thanks deb

This one has been glazed on the inside of the bowl

Not sure it would have been if it was going to be stuffed with something

    Unsure

I think it is to hold rings in or perhaps some earrings. Just a guess.

Thanks pearls, hard to know for sure when you can't find another example

    Not that that's a bad thing ;);)

There were eggcups made for quail eggs, I've got one somewhere, will look for it to measure it. But somehow the aristocratic treat of a quail egg and a playful cat don't really go together.
