[QUOTE="Ladybranch, post: 93256, member: 44"]Wek, you come up with the most interesting items! Because of the leather woven handle, my first thought was a Basque malika, walking stick, with hidden weapon. Malikas are noted for their leather woven handles though some handles are metal. After doing a little research found that malikas have spears rather than a daggers like yours. Also malikas seem to have a flattened horn or hardwood pommel knob in the same shape of the berets Basgue shepherd wear. The wood of your shaft appears to be bamboo while malika shafts are not. Here are a couple examples of Basque malikas:

https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/39202485_makila-cane

http://www.rauantiques.com/item/basque-makila-spear-walking-stick.30-3361.html

Somewhere I read that the finest sword canes are of Malacca. Speaking of swords, do check out the length of the inside of the cane, like sticking a wire down inside it. If it is longer than the dagger blade, then a good possibility the dagger is a remnant of a sword. It was not unusual for the long blade of hidden swords broke and then reshaped making it appear as a dagger cane.

Did work on improving pic of the button on the handle.
