member my dad driving down Hwy1 thru Monterey,Ca passed a little gift shop w/ 6 or 7 Beatle Wigs hanging in the window.Next week,got back in town-every Drugstore,Market,Gas Station had Beatle Beatle Beatle. About a month later went to a kid's house,someone put 'Meet the Beatles' on the record player-i got it like a nuclear sunrise,third degree ear burns,the good kind.
Heard lots great stuff in the last 55+ years- nothin' like that.Though 1st time hearing Presley doing 'Heartbreak Hotel' my heart just about jumped outta my mouth.

Oddly, my "nuclear reaction" was to Benny Goodman's Sing, Sing, Sing. The music was about 30 years older than I was. Still is. But... DANG.

 

'Sing,Sing,Sing' and 'Drum Boogie'-sublime. Scorsese and lots of other folks think so too-the height of Big Band masterpieces !

 

Not meant for headphones though. In a room, full blast.

 

I also really love some of Jo Stafford's records-'Haunted Heart'.Artie Shaw-'Begin the Beguine'.

 

I can honestly say I've never heard Jo Stafford, but have run into Artie Shaw.

 

Jo Stafford's WWII hit-'I'll Be Seeing You' and 1952's 'You Belong To Me'. Check her out-hope you like her.

 

I know the first one, but the Vera Lynn version. Trying to think who wrote it. Probably know the second one too.

 

"I'll be seeing you" I need tissues to listen to that tune. I think of all my relatives and loves who have passed on.

I saw a doc the other night on PBS (I think) for the Beach Boys. Most of it was about Brian Wilson. Such a talent but emotionally he is still not whole.

 

The 60s did him in and that quack doctor made things worse.

 

And his dad.

 

Didn't know that part, but I'm not surprised.
