I bought this pretty Emma Hamilton portrait for £20 on eBay. I have absolutely no idea how old it is. I'm wondering if anyone can please help me date it?

The portrait itself (without the frame) measures 10.5cm x 8cm

The seller, optimistically, estimates it's date as c. 1810. He says it came from an estate sale, from which he also acquired a similar portrait of Napoleon.

The Surrey map on the back is certainly old, but could have been added later?

The map backing came split, so I could view the base of the portrait, which is raised at the sides suggesting it was cast from resin (or plastic) with the line details cloured by hand afterwards. The photo I've taken of this is blurry, sorry.

The face reminds me of this Thomas Baxter sketch: https://images.app.goo.gl/8fnjH9ZBjGKtnN2DA

Certainly appears to be a modern decorative item from the 1970s.

I took it down to the local antique shop and the guy there confirmed our suspicions that it's a modern(ish) forgery with the old map stuck on the back to make it look old. Thank for all your feedback

Not really, I had small belief that it might be genuinely old when I bought it, and am happy with it as a piece of art. It's nice quality regardless

Don't think it's a forgery per se. It's meant to look old tyme-y but -- with the lack of detail and that banner -- doesn't pretend to be period. Here's a true period print. Note complexity of design and text treatment.
