The anchor mark tells me it's pre-1900 but there's no pattern name visible. I'd also like to know the approximate decade of manufacture.

I bought the platter on the way home today for the equivalent of 10$.

The pattern is "the Villagers". Coysh and Henrywood say it appears to date from the 1820s.

These are from "The Dictionary of Blue & White Printed Pottery 1780-1880 Volume 1" by Coysh and Henrywood.

Well, 1820's is old enough for 10$.

In my mind I was expecting it to be very late 19th century for some reason. But I guess it's too plain and Georgian in shape for that period.

All I can say is that you absolutely can't rely on anything in a listing unless there's a reference given.

I'd pay $10 all day long:) Now I do think the market has fallen as I bought a similar large Staffordshire blue platter at auction in the last year for $20. Mine has some knife marks but not all that long ago I know it would have been much much higher.

    So yea for us!
