    Hi folks

found this little beauty at a local church table top sale
wasnt exactly cheap (£10) but thought worth that

    hoping its deco period.

theres 2 hallmarks to the fastening clip

presuming bakelite ( if of period )

i thought it was a choker, but its too short for any neck (unless the ribbon has been replaced)

    but its bracelet size

    any help would be great

I think celluloid. The assay mark and maker's mark are French, I think I see the boar's head.

Wouldn’t that extend out to fit a neck Charlie?

very well could be celluloid, as it feels more fragile than bakelite, thats why i haven't given it a good scrub, as worried the side gaps may snap

I think earlier, Edwardian and a memento mori. Lovely.

Not much. Off this site. To the left, underneath appraisers photograph. Illustration from the book Estate Jewelry, 1760 to 1960. Caption "In service bracelet 1917." I'd think bracelet and that time frame right.

"Victorian black silk ribbon bracelet" will bring up examples or initialed mourning bracelets. Some mis-identified as to era. I think yours is Edwardian because of the bakelite, wider ribbon, and bolder closure.

Does this mean a maid wore it? Livery for female staff?

The photo of the back makes me think jet.

My only quibble with that is that it wasn’t a Thing in the U.K. We’ve never really gone in for that whole wearing something or displaying something to show you’d a relative in the armed forces. Sweetheart pieces, yes, but those were things like RAF wings or the regimental crest and were given by the soldier or airman. Not bought by the relative, if that makes sense.

I reckon these are the initials of someone who’d died.

never even contemplated that obb, but what a great suggestion

Obviously, no direct link to the military but a similar that may confirm usage (bracelet) and period (Edwardian.) From what I can see on the internet, these types of bracelets were popular in the Victorian era and were worn as momento mori. That may be a military link.

I absolutely agree it’s an Edwardian bracelet. Those slightly later in service ones look derived from the design.
