DESIGNED METAL CONTAINERS - AMMO CONTAINER? PURSE?

    I found these at a local thrift store last week; I thought they might be ammo pouches? or maybe something native American? - but my girlfriend said she thought they were purses?!
    Any help would be appreciated!

    They look Indian to me, not Native American.

    Amulet cases, my guess is North Africa, possibly Middle East or Afghanistan. These are souvenirs, the original ones are used to keep protective bits and pieces in, like Koranic texts, stones, pieces of fabric, beads, herbs.
    The Arabic numerals on the back probably have a healing or protective significance. Some people in Islamic regions attach great importance to numerology.
