Featured Desk in need of restoration...satinwood?

    I bought this desk today for very little money off ebay listed as a pine desk, the reason I bought it is because I think it's satinwood, would love to know your thoughts. Sorry for only one photo but it's the best I can do ATM. 18afe5be-a991-420e-ac28-8d657b1c36c2.jpg

    Thank you, I couldn't let it go, I pick it up tomorrow and paid £5.45 on ebay lol needs some work but at that price who cares

    TBH I'm not sure of what to do, the desk has a original canvas gesso top badly damaged and beyond saving so I need to either replace it with leather, velvet ect or replace like for like. I'm not that experienced in English furniture, would I devalue it by replacing it with leather or velvet and not keeping the original canvas gesso?     Personally if I was keeping it I would replace it with leather (Skiver)
    Its usually tanned calf skin.

    You can order it pre measured and gold tooled, how much it costs I have no idea.
    You then have to adhere it to a smooth surface :eek:

    If you are going to resell I would just rub the surface down with wire wool and wax it., do as little as possible

    £1 over £5.45 is profit

    Thank you, as long as it's not some special (rare) sort after top I'll just use a modern patterned velvet.
