Generations of collectors plus original 19th century barn contents. I’m searching the many hundreds and hundreds of box lots. One in the middle of the tables, not under anyone’s watchful eye as it should have been. Full of sterling bullion cups, with their sterling saucers, all with their porcelain liners. I’m super pumped but based on position of table they are on they probably won’t cross the block for like 3-5 hours. A lady sees me checking them out and I think oh great now she’ll be bidding against me. She chats me up, very nice lady. I move on inspecting more lots at the back of the site. Someone else must have seen me snooping in the hidden sterling box it turns out. While I’m in the back not paying attention to the block the lady from a while ago comes and taps me on the shoulder. She tells me the lot I was just checking out is about to cross the block. Someone had grabbed it and requested the auctioneer move it across the block asap. Probably after seeing me take note of it and noticing I was distracted. Luckily I had a scale with me and knew about what the silver was worth already. Even more lucky that the lady not only didn’t care about the silver, but made an extended effort to come alert me. The other bidder bailed out somewhere under $150. I think around $120. It wound up being around $700 in melt that I snagged. That was one of the best auctions I ever attended. Also one of the ones I damaged my car interior at by stuffing it so full. Drove home late at night exhausted from a long day of bidding, massive fishing poles sticking out my car window. I hadn’t even looked at the fishing gear before bidding. It just sold at a no lose price. One ended up having an antique fly reel on it worth around $1,500![/QUOTE]
