Featured Did I just find a Rembrandt Van Rijn on garage sale?

Sorry, it isn't high enough resolution for my limited editing ability to do anything.

It just look like noise when I try. My eyes want there to be a line of text but it's just as likely it isn't there and my brain is trying to make something recognizable.

 

I don't think there is a text but I am sure there are some shapes there of some kind.

Am I mad or do you see something as well?

 

Right in the middle of the circle here is what I mean. I am convinced I see a insect shape of some kind there.

 

I have no idea what is or isn't there. Guessing, looks like there is writing in the top arrow and maybe a text watermark in the bottom one, maybe something in between, but it's just as likely there isn't anything. Need better photos to even guess.

 

Do you have this latest print in hand, or are you working from the seller's photos?

This is an example of an original Rembrandt print sold by Christie's (I have cropped it for comparison). I hope you can see the difference in the quality of the lines. Christie's notes that the original has a "Strasbourg Lily" watermark -

Rembrandt was a very popular artist, during his lifetime and ever since. There have been many, many reproductions and copies of his work.

 

Right now I am working of sellers but the piece is purchased yes so its mine.

Interesting plaque on the back on it.

Its the title of the work in French on a metal (brass?) plaque it seems.

 

Then there's this. "KIØBENHAVN" spelling was only used until latest 1906 so it must be from before that I assume.

I believe the blue arrow here points directly at a critter/insect shape (it's head with the body following under) and thats what initially caught my attention with this one. Seems like a watermark to me.

 

It's like cloud pictures to me right now. I can find all sorts of things that may or may not exist. It will probably be much easier when you have it in hand or have clearer photos.
