Well there really is no reason to be nasty to anyone especially someone new who may be just trying to make a living & get by. God knows there is more than a sufficient amount of nasty in this world & I personally am sick to death of all it.

Treat others as you would like to be treated & if you are not in the mood to be nice refer to cxgirl's funny yesterday with the Boxer dog.

We have rules that newbies should know about......but it seems that most....don't even care to read them....so on a post like this......my response would start off..

To be fair this thread should have been in the "Wanted" section - then resposes saying "Hey would you be interested in ..." either from flipper or Lori would have been fine. So it isn't really flipper or Lori who broke the rules, it was the OP (not that he did it on purpose).

 

Maybe nasty was not the correct word to use. Maybe a better word would have been grumpy or terse.

However, while I know there are rules on this forum, I think maybe cutting a newbie some slack is a better approach.

I will lay odds that this person was trying to do a little research on her pieces & maybe do a little marketing. We all know how the Google bots love this forum. How many times has someone gone to research a question & think they have found another exact item only to find that it is the item in question? Often times items in question here are on Google within minutes.

Now if a person keeps coming back, basically doing the same thing again & again, then it becomes a problem. However a one time thing to me is not a problem.

I have read your posts when someone offers to buy or sell something & if I was a newbie that got that response I don't think I would look on this forum as a very welcoming or friendly place.

I know that the vast majority of people who come here to ask about their items are never heard from again. However some do come back & some even become regular posters. We have no way of knowing in the beginning which way that person is going to go. So why not be a little nice & helpful to all of the new members. No one knows which one will become a regular & maybe become a real asset to the forum.

I am definitely not saying you are not nice &/or helpful to folks who come here seeking help. You are are a great asset to this forum especially when it comes to Judaic items, knives & First Nation items among many other things.

I am speaking specifically about the responses to offers to buy &/or sell items that are mistakenly posted outside of the marketplace section.

 

folks that arrive here trying to buy or sell.....with no introduction post....or anything else.....should be shown the rules straightaway....
not shown the door !!!
but...yes....the rules......
then they still should have 10 posts.....before engaging in commerce.

Otherwise.....why rules at all ...??

 

Tell you what, you handle those cases whatever way you feel you need to when they come up. I will do the same & we will just agree to disagree going forward.

 

To all of you that have posted in this forum, thank you for your help. My wife and I will continue looking for more pieces once we have moved out of Japan. We have found that we simply don't have the room to add more pieces right now. Again, thank you for all of your information and insight. Next time, I will make sure to post in the correct location (although I wasn't looking to buy from my post, simply asking if anyone knew where we could find them, so I don't see why it would have been required to be in the marketplace when I was asking for information).
