Hello there, just some info on this beauty, i found this on the west coast of Scotland whilst bottle digging a few years ago, weighing in at 1.1kg its the biggest piece i have ever found by far. What i would like to know if anyone can help is what is the red colour running through it? Cinnabar? also what would the silver and grey flakes be that run through it also? Thanks in advance.

Looks like Lavender rose quartz with Muscovite mica inclusions. Could easily be wrong though.

Hi Miscstuff, thanks for the quick reply, i'm not to sure about it being Lavender rose quartz but that's a good shout with Muscovite mica. Thanks for the info.

Molybdenum is also found in association with quartz.

I was going to comment that it must have been formed in a tumultuous environment, then looked up cinnabar in Wiki & see it is a vein filling mineral associated with volcanic activity, so this may be a good guess.

Rock hound's dream. I see cinnabar is on the list, so it can stay in the running.

Going by the amazing information given on this forum i have came to the conclusion that the red on the quartz is Cinnabar. Thank you.

It does look like Cinnabar, also when its wet it runs red so could be used as a dye just like Cinnabar. Thanks for your input, appreciated.
