i think they are chalk drawings, both 1963 Penang but i cannot make out the name of the artist. since both are local scenes, i am thinking a local artist?

Yes, probably a local artist, pastel. They are charming, and good quality.
Malaysian art is getting to be more popular, thanks to the new Malaysian middle class.
    Family connection to Penang?

So we have another Peranakan on board!
Shangas is also Peranakan, from all over the Straits. I am a tiny bit Peranakan (microscopic), through a Javanese connection.

AJ, you might want to look this up on Wikipedia. There are a number of interesting pictures if you click on the first one.
Thanks for the continuing education. patd

    Thanks patd.
    And a pleasure.
I am fascinated by old trade routes, and the opportunity they gave for ideas and art to spread. They often led to a greater appreciation of differences in culture and people. And fascinating new cultures were created, like the Peranakan.
If you enter Peranakan in the search box at the top of the page, you will find more 'Peranakan threads', and the guessing games the cultural mix can lead to.

Lovely! They are wearing Peranakan slippers (beaded?), and your GG-grandma a lovely old-style kain-kebaya.
Did you see Shangas' family photos? They are on the forum somewhere.
