Does dust help sell antiques?

Thank you. You expressed an interesting opinion that antiques need to be dusted, but other items don't. One of the other guests on this thread thinks the opposite: antiques need to be dusted, but vintage items don't.

 

I don't understand it myself. I do a lot of things intuitively. At first, I was more interested in leaving them in the dust. Only later did I find a logical explanation for why I didn't dust them off. I even play chess intuitively.

 

Yes, you're right. Dust and rust make old things look more natural and emphasize their authenticity.

There are no sales yet. I'd say dust and rust increase click-throughs. For every 5 views on Facebook, there's 1 click-through to the store. I use specialized Facebook groups dedicated to vintage items.

I agree with your opinion about looking for low prices in the store. I can accept your price for my product, if of course you need this product.

 

I'm pleasantly surprised by your sincerity. You're very honest with yourself. I respect that. You know, I often walk around in dirty clothes. My wife criticizes me for it. But I don't care. This is my frankness in response to your frankness.

 

Your prices are much too high, not only in my opinion but also compared to similar items.
I do understand your circumstances are exceptional. I hope I don't sound too harsh, but how many buyers are willing to pay ten times the usual price or more because of a seller's circumstances?
That said, I do like to buy from sellers in Ukraine if they have something good on offer, and will pay a little more than usual.

As an aside, I am glad you are still safe, and hope you will continue to be safe.

 

I am pretty sure that when Potteryplease said 'antiquity', he meant an (archaeological) item from ancient times. For instance from Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome. In English those items are known as antiquities, whereas items that are more recent but at least 100 years old are known as antiques.

I personally think vintage items should also be clean, but if you have buyers for dusty items, I say go for it.

 

In that case, a word of advice: Look for other listings of similar items, preferably sold items, and see if they were (relatively) clean and rust-free, and how much they sold for. Then advertise and price your items accordingly.
