About 10 1/2" in diameter. Paid a little bit more for this but hope to get something on the top.
I found that the artist did hand-thrown spheres and cast spheres but not sure how to tell what is the case here.

    Hi,
Your piece gave me huge jump. Back in the early 60's a friend gave me a crystal ball about 9" in diameter, he said it came an old estate. I played with it for several days trying to see something in it. Nada about two weeks later I was sitting at home bored one afternoon. I really really concentrated and all of a sudden I saw floating clouds in the ball just like the ones I circled on your photo. I became so frightened I sat up and covered the ball with a pillow. Two days later I donated the sphere to a church sale. To this day I do not know if it was a real rock crystal or glass. When I saw the clouds on your globe it instantly brought back the image in detail.

    Hi,
We all saw a strange things in the 60s but that was the mid and later part. This happened in the early 60s when I was still "normal":D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
