This jacket has the pull tab on the right side as one wears it. But as noted elsewhere sometimes this tradition is not always observed by some manufacturers.

I'm not sure what "inner edge of of armpit" means. You measure from the bottom of one sleeve across the jacket to the bottom of the other sleeve (where the side seam meets the sleeve seam is the bottom of the sleeve, AKA the pit. Pit to pit doubled is the chest size. Here's a visual and explanation for boy's jackets: https://kidscoats.org/size-chart

If it's 16 across, that's an old UK size 10. Might have been labelled for our market.

US has women's size 10 which is a medium and also a child's size 10 (boys and girls) which is about a medium. Just different size scales

Find a boy you know, and a size 10 woman, and ask them to try it on.

So do I put 16" across or 32" (doubled)?
    Thanks all!

You could always photograph it with a tape measure showing measurements at different places. Sleeve, chest, waist, length etc.

    Good thought, that.

By your chart it measures 18" across - so do I list it as a child's and/or woman's?
    Thank you for the chart!

It appears to be a child's size. I wouldn't rely on just the chest measurement: measure the shoulders, sleeve, waist and length to compare with size charts.
