Douglas is said to have worked in conjunction with Ackermanns for many years, who in 1887 published a set of four coursing scenes by Douglas which were engraved by C.R. Stock. Little is known of the life of this very competent sporting painter. Between 1880 and 1892 he exhibited ten works at the Royal Academy, all of which were hunting scenes and which were sent from an address in Barnes, London. Douglas frequently produced pictures in pairs or sets of four; a pair of his hunting scenes was engraved by Edward Gilbert Hester.
