I have this lovely piece that I think may be an EAPG pickle jar.

I looked in Metz, Ruth Webb Lee's Handbook of EAPG Patterns and Early American Pattern Glass by Reilly and Jenks.

I checked www.eapgs.org under pickle jars, no luck. Then thinking I may find something similar I checked spooners, tumblers, cracker jars, mustards, spills, and table sets. Still no luck.

I think the top may be pewter, it is definitely not silver or silver plated. I acid tested for silver.

Could this be British? I am stumped, any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Marie,
Even though the top may fit perfectly it still may be a marriage. I strongly feel that the real top to yours is either glass or silver. It just seems not right to me.

    I agree with Greg.

EDIT - Plus there should be a metal ring "base" with decor that matches the lid.

Personally, and with nothing except a hunch, I think it is a pickle jar - the kind that is mounted in a whatchamacallit that holds salt and pepper and oil and vinegar...

I'm too sleepy to think ...

Besides, it's the wrong size for a spooner, cracker jar, mustard, and the wrong shape for a jam or jelly.

Not to worry. No one on eBay ssems to have nailed it down either!

Yes, it's a pickle Castor (jar). I believe I've seen it in an old catalog, but cannot remember which one. It was not part of an EAPG pattern, but a single pickle, among other single pickles.

Somehow, "single pickle," just doesn't sound kosher!

    Thank you everyone!

Silverthwait, I assumed it was a pickle, I looked at those others thinking I may find the pattern in another shape :)

Thank you Cherryhill, it being a one-off would explain why I am having such a hard time finding it!
