    Well, she definitely looks:

    Michelangelo must have been thinking of her as the oldest & strongest sibyl, almost beyond gender. Wouldn't want her on my ceiling though.

    His prettier girls were probably modeled by boys.

    bringing this back up with new photos of canvas.
    Bought as an 18th century Italian school.
    16th century written on verso after restoration
    the stretchers are 19th century, seem to me to be later.
    to my eye the canvas looks pre-machine so 18th century or earlier possible.

    any more thoughts?
    anyone know of good reference books for studying early art and materials for identification?
