  1. Beautifully hand carved and painted elephant ivory figurines what looks to be Indian or eight E. Asian though I can’t find anything similar on the web. Please help me figure this out.

  2. Fairly hard to see on the last pic but there is clear cross hatching in the ivory verifiing the authenticity of the ivory.

Michael's right. The last picture has Schreger lines quite prominent. At least that one is ivory.

My first thought was resin as well.
I don't see Schreger lines. Maybe another picture would help.

Possibly part of a chess set in the Mughal style. I cannot see them well enough to comment on the material. It is referable to select 'full size' for the pictures when posting.

Really charming. I agree, ivory. Not East Asian, but Indian sub-continent, your other guess.
The man could be seen as Mughal, but the lady drummer is pure Indian. Judging from the henna on hand and footsoles, they could be from a chess set representing a wedding party.
My bet is on Rajasthan, northwestern India.

I can see what's best described as pseudo cross hatching. The body is also very very white. Sorry, but I think these are resin as well. I've seen modern chess sets here, very well done indeed, which are similar.

FA67BFF3-703B-458A-9A1F-CDBE530C27D9.jpeg I can’t speak as to what material they are, but they seem to be similar to these older ones, as far as the origin.
The listing I had here has been taken down.
    It had a description too.
Sorry, but it said Rajasthan emperor.

This is an example of characters only, yours are not of this age.

PSEUDO cross hatching...:bucktooth: never heard of that:sorry:
Ivorine has lines, but parallel and very regular, I've never seen a resin item with cross hatch... Some ivory can be really very white too :)
My sentiment is the same as AJ's, Indian, ivory:joyful:

Kyra, I've seen better resin items with what are basically moulded cross hatches. I just have my doubts on these.

:)you have absolutely the right to have doubts:)
From the pic, :peeking:for me;), the cross hatch has the "transparency" of the genuine ones, being inside the material, when molded lines would be on the surface.

If they are ivory, then they are brand spanking new,as theres zero signs of age. I thought even countries notorious for not complying with regulations stopped ( or tried to) poaching ivory.I still think resin, but I could very well be wrong.

You and obb could have a point. I have been studying the man's hair, it looks like it could be molded instead of carved. The Schreger lines are puzzling though.
@Michael Shelton could you post a photo of the hair?

  17. So to make sure there was no trick of the eye I sanded down the base a bit and the cross hatching shown through very clearly. I have a few pieces of ivory passed down and know the difference between celluloid, French ivory, resin and what not. You are correct it shows very little age signs and haven’t seen anything quite like it on the web. I’ll try and get clearer images of the crosshatch soon so you can see it better.

  18. It’s not showing the item shows no longer available. Do you recall what it’s labeled as?

Corrected above. I will try to find info. It was just removed.
Sorry, description is gone. From what I remember these were stained? I think. And dated 18 or 19 century ( that’s what they said) as if unsure. Then was a description of the emperor and woman and outfits.
