It absolutely may not be. That’s pure speculation on my part. But it’s hard to see the two figures as anything other than heads.

They are leaves. Very typical leaves.

They are just the background of the design, just like all the other pale areas.

Hmmm, well apparently I'm not seeing anything that you are, but it's your piece, so guess it can be whatever you want it to be, even if it isn't...

The green areas on your 'ladies' are just, as already suggested by others, stylized acanthus leaves, very typical in designs like this.

my God, I can it now... thanks everyone and apologies!
Unless of course the designer cleverly intended the leaves to simultaneously create the head shapes... that’s a joke. Clearly.
Thanks everyone and for the weaving tech info. Just got to train my brain to stop seeing the heads now...

That's ok, you seem to be a romantic, a different view of the world.:)
And once we see something, it is difficult to 'unsee' it.;)

;) good because I was completely unable to discern the heads from the leaves

Even with diagrams and arrows, I could not see these women. Then I got on my phone.

    And the leaves completely disappeared.

I offer this for everyone else who couldn't see them (they're not real, though, the leaves are real -- but once seen, you cannot unsee).

You clearly have too much time on your hands, and for that, I am thankful! You might just have saved me a psychiatrists appointment.

Do you think there’s any possibility at all that the dual effect might just be intentional? What do you make of that area I’ve been calling the ‘sea?’

Just when I thought I was out... you pull me back in!

No, I'm just really irresponsible with the time I do have.

    No.

I was just trying to help the poor folks who couldn't see them. ;)

I can see the different colours in this image. The greens do seem a tad incongruous, viewed as anything other than leaves, I must say.

i’m glad you did. Although I dread to think what all this might say about me. Probably best not to think about it!
