    Hello,

First post and would appreciate any help identifying what this object is? I thought perhaps a jar holder?

It is made in England with the label: esse quam videri

    thanks,
    Rob

    Hi Rob,

Looks like a condiment or cruet holder to me, but not really my specialty.

    What are its dimensions?

Depending on its size I would agree with sabre123. My first thought was casserole dish holder.

Looks to light to hold a casserole dish securely. Can you get a closer picture of the label (both sides.)

It has a lift handle on the back and two dividers. I'd agree- cruet holder.

Hmmm, interesting . . . "esse quam videri" is my state's official motto -- "To be rather than to seem."

The General Assembly of 1893 (Chapter 145) adopted the words “Esse Quam Videri” as the state's official motto.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Would like to see the label more clearly, and also see the motto, as it doesn't seem to be on the side that was showing. Since it's made by a British company I'm going to assume that this is marked on all of their pieces and it has some meaning as a motto or logo of the company itself.

Thanks for all the replies. I have found the same label on another item.

Try Queen Anne Silver Plate. 1970s ish, anyhow.

Not a cruet, too big - from memory, these had moulded glass jam jars on them.
