Ah, like Yanks, Brits, Canucks, etc., New Zealanders are known as Kiwis.

I got a tiny metal perfume bottle in a lot I bought on eBay. The bottle appeared to be a brassy color & I never considered anything else.:rolleyes:

However, I did a Google image search of the bottle one night & the first match was one that the seller claimed was 14 karat. I laughed until I looked at the bottom of mine & there in the corner was a very faint 14K mark. :jawdrop::jawdrop:

There are strange things out there made of gold so you might start looking for any kind of hidden mark. :D:D

Great result. Strange and allmost wasteful to me that it was made out of gold.

Amazing! Helluva final pick for the year! Do you think it’s hollow cast or solid? If solid you might have a real hum dinger. It’s a hum dinger either way but solid would make it a reallllll hum dinger. Did you test for different purities? I’m not sure what would be common for something like this or what’s common in NZ.

I mightttt be tempted to try to gently dissolve the adhesive (assuming it’s adhesive) so that I could weigh my bird. If you plan to sell it that is the only great option for settling on a fair price. Unless you can find a good comp that is I guess. Congrats on the great final score!

Unlikely Tiffany actually produced those perfumes on 1st Dibs, they often retailed items by other manufacturers, they lack the 'MAKER' mark, with the 'TIFFANY & CO.' (or 'Co.') mark almost certainly stamped by the manufacturer. Thomae Co. produced Tiffany's sterling purse perfume flasks in various designs for decades, they're found with and without the Thomae mark included, as well as with just the Thomae mark, and they were sold to other retailers as well, along with the tiny funnels often included, until they went out of business several years ago (they were shown on their website). The image below is a composite of marks found on perfumes with the same mid-20th century engraved motif (sorry for the pic quality, but wanted to use the same items):

yeah, its pretty conclusive, will dissolve
thanks bud, if i had to guess i'd say its hollow cast by tapping it but hard to tell for sure, only got a 9ct acid tester, so unsure of purity

Might consider getting yourself a belated Xmas gift of an acid suite! Well worth the $15 or whatever it goes for. 18k worth 2x 9K. While this is obvious once you get into a few grams or more purity differences really do add up fast. Congrats again. Hope there are many more pleasant surprises in the New Year!
