I could not think of Lithophane. Knew there was another word, but all I could think of was medallion.

    Kicking myself!

Sold lots of lithophane before, so why did it not occur to me to shine a light through it?

Finally figured out what gestalt I was getting from imperfect view. It is this:

Early on in my time here, got into a wrangle with one of the members who actually knows something about coins & currency over whether this is Medusa or Mercury. From the standpoint of conventions in the glyptics world, which has strong ties with numismatics, this figure has the two main attributes used to indicate Medusa & none belonging to Mercury. However, although not consistent across the board, you can see at the link above that the ID of Mercury has become accepted.

Anyway, it was nagging at me; now it can stop.

Bronwen, will post better photo in the morning. Sorry I did not realise it was a lithophane.

    Well done, you.

What a lovely idea. Now & then see beautiful ones with mythological subjects.

All this was developing while I was off on Medusa/Mercury. It's the crown that has been hidden. Doubt now it will turn out to be possible to assign a name, but let's have a look when you can. With the crown, you could see the 'radiance' surrounding the head as suggesting a big lace ruff.

OK, I will yield to the hedgehog. But definitely not a wild boar.

Have you removed the bits of label on bulldog and found any marks?

Wouldn’t be the first time. :) That description has been circulated to many of these figures.
