For anyone who has not experienced being detained in a foreign country. Let me say this, I have, it is & was the worst experience of our lives. Where it happened - in all places traveling to Germany in May of 21. My husband & I were detained at the airport for more than 12 hours, at one point separated for hours. Who knew they had “jails” at airports, not us. If it were not for our DIL mother who dates a politician who helped us (yes, I did contact the Embassy & a Congressperson I knew well, time difference was not on our side) it would have gone further south. Yes, it was when Covid was going on. However, we had permission to come into the country from the health dep’t in Germany, having met all the criteria. We had all of our necessary approvals, paperwork & testing. After all was said & done the trip turned into a catastrophe. My husband wound up in the hospital twice! European healthcare by far is less expensive than ours even with health insurance.

    Don't.
My brother and SIL have been able to change their tickets, originally flights from to Tahiti via the US, to flights from Vancouver to Tahiti. They are not taking any chances. Nor should anyone else in "the current climate".
    Also avoid North Korea.
Frankly, Iran and Russia are safer for foreigners nowadays.

I was detained at Charles de Gaulle airport, Paris, when I was 16 yrs old.
I was traveling with my parents and brother from Peru to the Netherlands. So we were en route, but we had to go from one Paris airport to the other. They singled me out, Gd knows why. OK, I had flown in from Peru, known for cocaine, but we were traveling as a family and I was the youngest. A 16 year old Dutch national without any history of drugs whatsoever.
It only lasted about an hour or so, and we managed to catch the next flight. I wasn't upset, just very indignant, from start to finish.
And as usual, my parents had no idea I was even missing until my brother alerted them to the fact that I had been taken away by customs officers.

I'm even leery about crossing state borders....
I like it here in South Jersey. On another note, I had clothing donations to drop off, so I got to do some thrifting in better places. It was senior day at two thrifts, so I got 15% off. I got some great clothing (I donated larger clothing and got smaller clothing at the thrifts.) A lot of the clothes were Macys brands, I got a Banana Republic silk skirt for $2 and an Ooh La La shirt for $2 (had to look up that brand.) I got two beautiful silk scarves, $2 and $3. I will photograph the scarves and a few of the clothing items. Of course, I got jewelry, will photograph.

My Dad and I were detained at the Montreal airport , coming home from a buying trip in Europe , by a female customs agent trying to make her bones with us.
Locked in a cinder block room, for over 2 hours , while we were interrogated .

My sister flew from California to New York when my mother had a stroke. Since we didn't know what would happen she did not have a return flight. The authorities didn't like that and held her in California to make sure she didn't have a bomb!

Scary yes. After 9/11, the following year I took my kids to NY for Passover with the family. On our way up I got pulled out of line, they didn’t want my kids with me. I stood firm they were 9 & 10. On the way back once again I got pulled out of line along with my 9 y/o. I asked for a supervisor knowing the drill. While waiting they asked if they could search my son, I said nope. We waited for a supervisor who took a look at us with such a question on his face & let us go. As often as I travel within the US & outside of the US I have had a few issues. Once arriving in Germany & once leaving, when I was leaving it was a large mixed group from different flights going to all different destinations - they made us go to an area of the airport that was far away from the departing flights & interrogated me & searched me in the middle of the airport, sadly I missed my flight, the worse part of that I thought I had a cold & when I finally landed my husband took me to the ER my ear drum burst & I had pneumonia all I kept thinking was the lady who searched me I probably got her sick.

Wow, I have not flown anywhere in decades And I won't be going anywhere soon either.
Komo I think they may still have that kind of fare, but not sure.
