I'm a simple man. I see fine Italian art for $50 in a thrift store and it just follows me home. I really can't help it. IMG_20250504_212633_(1080_x_1080_pixel).jpg

Ha, ha. The book sale was OVERWHELMING! So, I'm afraid I couldn't scour the tables upon tables of cookbooks, but I did find by accident a couple of books I didn't expect. $4CDN each. IMG_20250505_154740_(999_x_749_pixel).jpg

It looks like the eyelashes are in the eyeball and that is sooooo uncomfortable for me! :cyclops::hilarious: I like the texture they got in the iris.

    Nice!

Mine are green too, although some days they ought to be brown. (tilt! Tilt!) It's pretty awesome.

Not one but two Goddens; the bar code kiddies didn't spot those! I used to hit the local library book sale, when we still had a functional library. Currently it's "under construction". The bar code scanner resellers used to go in and pick over the books, but didn't know enough to check out things without a bar code or ISBN. Gotta love when that happens; all the more for us old farts.

Told myself I'd stay out of the thrift stores for a while but stopped by one that always has cheap goodies. Good day for it lol. Marwal ind inc statue for $9.99. Some scratches and a barley noticable repaired crack at the neck. IMG_20250506_120104_(1080_x_3230_pixel).jpg

It finally happened; I found a box at GW that wasn't vintage.

I'm guessing it was formally a box for a microscope or similar scientific instrument like this or this, which are dated 1865. When I bought it the previous owner had put sticky felt on the bottom which took some doing to remove. It's clearly been through some things, but at $3 I don't mind. :D

    That's a proper old box.

Not my usual thing but these handles were to cool to pass up. Amber glass with dark red glass insets and the metal is all brass. Love that the rosettes/backplates are there- I am not sure what the proper term is. When a light is shown on the dark red, it makes a nice glow.

The glass has bubbles in it, so not sure what technique would have been used for production. No makers mark or country on them at all.

Is there an area in this forum to request help with any info or age? I am very clueless in this area!

Day 100 of going into thrift stores when I shouldn't and then finding something incredible for dirt cheap
Believe this is either a parlor table or plant stand? Not quite sure. Looks pretty old and I'm thinking 19th century based on finish and carving but I'm no expert. Has what appears to be a makes mark of some sort on the backside of one of the legs. Would be awesome if someone here could shed some light on this find. Can provide more pictures if that helps identify/date it. IMG_20250509_153616_(1080_x_1434_pixel).jpg PXL_20250509_191913875~3.jpg
