At that price it was grab and run jewelery!

If you read my teapot post on the glass/pottery board, I mentioned I regretted leaving behind a silverplated tilting teapot. It's my birthday today, and I decided to run down to my consignment shop at the shore to drop off all my purses, shoes, clothes, and perfumes I got at bag day at an estate sale. Two blocks down is a cat rescue thrift shop where I was donating packing materials and litter box bags, and that's where the teapot was. My teapot was still there! It's not perfect, has some denting/wonky stem issues on one side, but it was $40 and I couldn't buy it fast enough. Even my husband, who rolls his eyes at every teapot I drag home, loves it.

That is a lot of fun! I love the design of it and the etching. It's always nice when the spouse gets it too. :D

Just a blah day, too hot and humid, ⛈️ on the way. Here are some dolls I bought the first day of the 3-day estate sale. On the last day, I found clothes for the Dollikin, stuffed them in a bag.

The most valuable, she needs some restoration, a Dollikin 2s, original Dollikin pants, not sure of the top.

The Annalees from that estate sale. Only two of the Halloween cats are the same. Most were $4 or $6. Some will be gifts.

I am posting my jewelry finds from this past Friday through Sunday on the jewelry board. I will also start a thread under General Discussions about the estate sales experiences this weekend.

Welp. I've done it yet again. Thrifted my third fugitti studio cherub lamp. This one was $14.99. a little bit of chipping at the base but seems like it'll be an easy repair. All in all $47 deep into approximately $1500 worth of lamps
Other finds include a poorly repaired 1876 EJD bodley sugar/trinket? bowl for $6, a who-knows-how-old brass/bronze finish floral accented vanity mirror (which one sold for $245 3 years ago online claiming it was circa 1890, but I got this one for $8 and I don't care how old it is ) and a super cool handled cobalt tray for $3. Mr S..... what on earth do you do with all this junk you're buying while your wife is still on the waiting list for a booth????
Well the answer is the hallway of mirrors and the unwalkable room of thrift and estate finds
PXL_20250701_183410414.jpg excuse the mess. Were still getting moved in after downsizing and losing 700 square feet of storage . But this was our only option as we didn't want to risk our last place being 4' underwater and losing everything. The joy of shady landlords not disclosing the property history of the past 10 years and the three times it's been underwater :)

I say this lovingly, as a fellow collector who knows all too well the addiction: You must find other hobbies until Ms. S. gets that booth or y'all will be drowning in a different way!! :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

I do like the hall of mirrors though. I love a hallway with a theme. Ours is music posters (mostly my husband to blame there but a few are mine). I started collecting a few mirrors to make our darker rooms brighter and it's very hard to say no to a good one. I've done it though. It is possible! :playful:

Unless it's going for dirt cheap. I've learned to resist some things, but if it's priced at under the sales tax on the real value....resistance is futile.

That's part of my problem. With work I'm always driving and near a good thrift store or peddlers mall in an area people don't price check or know what they have lol. Ive found that I have somewhat of an affinity for finding rarish things dirt cheap and I don't think I've ever paid close to retail on anything. Id say about 90% of everything I've gotten has been found at 10-20% of the Etsy/eBay sold values. Thrift stores and auctions in bfe have faired me well lol. And good news is the wife did find out she'll be getting a booth on Aug 1st in the rich part of town at a more upscale consignment shop. Everything at that place is priced at retail or slightly under and they do 5-10k of sales a day with less than 40 booths. So should be a good start. And yes I have accounted for taxes on capital gains & commission once we start selling and I've kept every receipt. Based on some of the calculations I've done well be at almost 2x profit on anything I've bought selling it at 10-25% off retail values (god willing our things actually sell lol )

Congratulations to the both of you! A month to clean/repair, price things and write up your inventory is an excellent amount of lead time. Please make a post about your process setting up and how it goes. I would love to live vicariously through your hopeful successes. :D

Went on a house call to a dealer who isn't selling any more. I had to pay up for these, no screaming bargains here!

A nice Elgin compact plus lots of nice silver. I am going to post a question on the silver forum about the needle case.

Beautiful pieces with a lovely polish. The center bracelet and brooch to the left are my favorites but no bad purchase in the lot for sure!

Depends on the needles; lots of proper sewing needles are that short.

Good going! You scored inventory with enough room for good profit after paying for the booth.

The Mexican bracelet is a pretty one, and I bet not cheap if she knew what it was. (and it was signed.)

The Danecraft fooled me. I'd give it house room either way.
