This small Chinese sewing basket was $2.00. I see these quite often. They are usually larger and almost always missing all or some of their adornments. I know not a lot of value but had to get it due to unusual small size and being complete.

Art nouveau sterling hand mirror. This one is pretty beat up with dents and even a couple holes in the silver. The mirror is also falling out. For $3.00, well worth it even if just for scrap.
    thriftsilver12.jpg

Small modern paperweight vase for $2.00.
    thriftglass86.jpg

The top of this glass trinket box has a wheel-cut floral design that doesn't show well in the pic. Bought for $3.00.
    thriftglass87.jpg

This 4 gal. RedWing jug was $13.00. Perfect condition. Surprised Goodwill let it slip through.
    thriftpot56.jpg

Had never heard of Steninge Slott art glass from Sweden before. Without the label I would have thought probably Chinese. About 6" diameter. Bought for $4.00.

I always find American souvenir items that are clearly Asian in origin intriguing. Particularly if they are older. This Lookout Mt. TN souvenir bowl fits the bill. Couldn't they find something locally made to sell? Any idea what the symbols mean? Bought for $2.00.

The Ken Edwards piece would sell nicely on line; there's a market. I'd have snatched up those Native carvings too, provided Komo didn't get there first! As for the collar box, it's a box. Boxes always sell because people always need boxes. Burl bowls do too.

We had a fun weekend. I picked up more clothes that I absolutely don't need but had to have, as well as some fun bits...

Polynesian mid-century chalkware bust. Looks like some of these are stamped for Marwal. This one is the same mold, but incised Mari and signed Gwen for the painter. I like the detail she put into this one in comparison. IDK if this one is a repro, paint-your-own, same/different company or what.

A vintage industrial scissor lamp. I love it and want to keep it but my work space is no longer this style...

A septarian geode that looks quite cursed with those "eyes" and "mouth".

    septarian rock mirana.jpg

An original painting of Castle Stalker by Alex Gourlay. The castle has been filmed often (it was the Castle of Aaaarrrrrgggghhhh in Monty Python and the Holy Grail). Gourlay is a former production designer for BBC TV, Head of Design at BBC Scotland, and owned his own prop company so it's very fitting for me to have, as one painting artist film crew to another. I've no idea how it ended up here, but I really enjoy it. Not sure if it's on paper or board. We're going to crack it open this week to at least replace the mat.

That's the aragonite and I agree it really adds to the creepy factor. I told the husband it would at least make a great Halloween decoration as a cursed stone. :hilarious:

Thank you! :joyful: There are often paintings, but usually craft and student affairs so it's nice to have some of your luck and find a decent professional piece for once. I also just love Fat Castle and would have bought it anyway without knowing the artist.

    Day three.....

Believe this milk glass horn vase is Westmoreland (Originally thought Fenton and edited here). Looks kind of blue in this pic but is white. $2.00.
    thriftglass89.jpg

This carved figure is from South America. Maybe Paraguay if I remember correctly. Packed away right now so can't check. $2.00.
    thriftstuff16.jpg

This pottery vase is modern Chinese but I love the unusual form and copper glaze combination. $4.00
    thriftpot58.jpg

This little cobalt vase is extremely well made, with ground and polished bottom and perfectly concave ground pontil mark. Who dunnit? Also $2.00.
    thriftglass90.jpg thriftglass90b.jpg

This contemporary frosted pressed glass rose bowl with a silverplate base is from Italy. $4.00.
    thriftglass93.jpg

This is a very large Blenko vase. Only $6.00!
    thriftglass91.jpg

I bought this small wood bowl with 2 other simpler ones for 50 cents. It needs to be sanded and finished but has potential.
    thriftstuff18.jpg

I had to pay $8.00 for this large Oldsmobile ashtray. One for sale on ebay suggests these were in the dealer showrooms and is asking pretty good money for theirs, chips included. This one is perfect. I need to try and pin down when this particular logo was used. Logo is etched into the bottom.

Near as I can tell, the above logo was discontinued in 1924. Think the ashtray that old or is it a later commemorative? Mentioned the damaged one found above for $200.00. Another perfect one on ebay is asking $750.00! Yikes!

I am a sucker for these well made recipe card boxes. Can not pass this by for $2.00.
    thriftstuff19.jpg

    18" mahogany level. Also $2.00.
    thriftstuff20.jpg

Fairly large Chinese figure (about 10"). Represent anyone in particular? $4.00.
    thriftstuff21.jpg
First pic represents color best but this one shows detail better.
    thriftstuff21a.jpg

This little brass easel was $3.00.
    thriftstuff22.jpg

Pewter set is marked Craftsman Sheffield, England. pieces were priced individually  but $7.50 total for the set with my senior discount that day.
    thriftstuff23.jpg

This box is old, handmade, and of nice quartersawn oak. About a foot long so pretty big. Lock has been busted out at some point but put back in. Think I can repair this so it will look much better. May have to end up refinishing the whole box to get the repair to blend in. Bought for $4.00. This one is a keeper (at least for now).

I have a hunch that they were made to commemorate an anniversary of some sort, using old logos. There may have been more than one design. I'd bet on it being made in the 1960s just from the way the glass looks. 40th anniversary of something maybe, or 50th if this was made in 1974. Come to think of it, old 20s and 30s cars were a white hot "man cave" design element in the 60s and 70s.

Brad, I will take the easel, level and those boxes. :D I won't say no to good wooden box and those two are great. I love vintage tools and have been picking them up here or there. They're good props but to be honest, I would just use them in my personal tool kit. They are so beautiful.

    Great finds, all.

Brad, I would have picked up that Oldsmobile ashtray in a NY minute. Old car stuff is hot. Quality also looks like a cut above, would not be surprised if that ashtray was in a dealership somewhere, not privately owned.

Although they can use the logo for a bit, that it says "MICH" instead of "MI" for Michigan might possibly date it to pre-1963. The fineness to me says its older as well. Nice find.

very cool piece Brad, I would have picked it up too. Your ashtray logo is the same one used for the radiator badge that is in the Smithsonian

yours and the above example don't have USA on the bottom. The following radiator badge examples are similar but have USA on the bottom
