"LPP A says "Hey, ya know, this part of town doesn't look that bad".

LPP B says "You don't wanna meet the guys that live here. Most of them still work for a job for a living like my dad"................."

Horrors. "STILL working for a living?" Sounds like a recipe for trouble down the road.

I had no idea that there were any "dry"' spots in Chicago. Looks like I stopped going to concerts at The Bottle just in time. I do remember getting there early one afternoon and relaxing at their charming bar for hours.

Well, next time my projects will be in Logan Square - lots of great architecture around there - and in the 6500 block of S. Champlain. I'm not sure there's much that's great around there at all. Supposedly Emmet Till went to school there before heading south to his rendezvous with destiny; at least, the school there now bears his name.

I commend the writer Joseph Mitchell to you, who in the early and mid 20th century managed to presciently write about gentrification in articles like "Obituary of a Gin Mill" while chronicling the odd, eccentric, and forgotten. Although he wrote about New York, his observations may ring true for Chicago as well. He was wonderful!

Oh, the Bottle is still wet - it is only new venues and shops that can't sell liquor. Existing places were grandfathered in. And this being Chicago, if the Alderman needs to pay his kids private school tuition you can still get a license..............

Logan Square is nice looking, but................

I have no idea what the area around 6500 South is like, but its funny that you mention Emmet Till. I am trying to sell one of the most tasteless prints I have ever laid eyes on............it is a matted, frame-able rendition of the newspaper drawing of Till's uncle giving testimony at the trial.......................but there must be demand - it is from a museum gift shop and has a retail price tag of $125....................

I hate to be an alarmist, but do be careful ANYWHERE in Chicago..........innocent bystanders seem to be the most common bullet fodder these days and location does not matter -Gold Coast to Lawndale to Austin to Avondale, the shootings are very where. I think it was Friday last when we "broke our own record", 15 shootings resulting in 6 deaths in 6 hours................and not one of the victims was the target...............wish we could take up a collection to get all the gang bangers pistol range/target practice - it would pay off in the end when they all shot each other off and left the innocents to watch from the sidelines (and possibly applaud??)
