Featured First Edition of Thoreau's Cape Cod - Library Book, Not so Great Condition

    Is this worth putting on ebay? If so, should I do BIN or an auction? Thanks for any comments or advice.

    Seems odd that the due dates that I can read, that are stamped, are all in the 1960's.
    Tho perhaps it was donated to the library shortly before then.

    To a Thoreau collector (of which there must be many,) would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get one's hands on an affordable first edition.

    Usually if the title page date is later than the copyright date you can assume it is not a first edition....In this case... it is a first printing if the book has a 24 page catalog inserted into the rear of the book dated December 1894. As said earlier there were a small number of this edition printed...BAL says 2040 copies printed 13 January 1865; Borst says 2000 copies printed 22 December 1864. The sheets were not all bound up at this time but as need required between 20 January 1865 and 14 September 1865. The book was published 25 March 1865. Addall.com has a used library first edition selling for 42.00 the next cheapest copy they offer is $550.00
