    Hi All,
I came across this listing, wondering if this is a First Nations basket? Seller described it as a First Nations basket from Alberta. I'm not buying it, just wondering about it/trying to learn - I don't think the bottom is right. Size is 12"H x 7"W x 3"D
    any information appreciated
    thanks for looking:)

I would seriously doubt it is First Nations, or Native American. The form itself, with the lid that fits down over the basket, is usually associated with Philippine baskets. Most Philippine woven backpacks that I have seen have a wooden base, however, not woven like this.

Something about this just looks wrong...the lid seems too large/tall, it doesn't seem to match the rest of the basket, and almost looks like someone stuck another basket on top. It fits, but doesn't look right.

Could be a marriage, could have been made by a basketry craftsperson, could be Asian. So basically, it doesn't resemble anything I'm familiar with.

    thank-you Taupou:)
yes, the lid part looks odd, could be a marriage. Searching Philippine baskets there are lots that are very similar.
yes, just a learning piece without having to spend money:)
