I nearly passed over this brooch as being uninteresting but had a second look.
It’s not uninteresting at all as all the flowers are dyed carved bone or ivory. I thought bone but the lines on the red petals made me wonder if it’s ivory.
Any ideas of the age please with that long pin? English?
    Total length is around 2”.
    Thanks for looking :)

A lot of damage there. It must have been very handsome when new.

Older than dirt from the looks of it. We can't see the back but I suspect much older than the 1930s the front suggests at first.

Sorry, I don’t know where the photo of the back disappeared too! I’ll add it now.

@kyratango would you chip off all the damaged green on the leaves and then carefully repaint or just leave gold coloured? Its not enamel, it’s something much softer.

Yes definitely, it’s very sad. I am considering the options of how to clean it without causing more damage!

    kyratango Bug jewellery addiction!

I’d first try to carefully remove the red flowers, (yep, stained ivory:cyclops:) in order to clean the whole brooch. First with soapy water and a paint brush.
The paint may be either scraped, either removed with acetone. I’d try to repaint in green rather than leaving the leaves bright metal:)
    Bon courage!;)

The whole thing looks a little bit squished to me.

When you're 120+ you'll be a little squished too. I saw a piece of a tube hinge in the original images.

I’ll get a better photo of the hinge tomorrow :)

Thanks everyone :) I suspected it was quite elderly. I’ll see what I can do to spiff her up a bit.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

It's lovely. I hope you can bring it back to life. And tell us about it later!

I figure a giant work pile is a guarantee of immortality. Right?
