Hello! Could you please help me estimate the age of this brooch? A local shop said that it tested as diamond and sterling silver, but I didn’t see any hallmarks, but there was a mark on the clasp - thanks

    I would think , that's a lot of diamonds...for a silver brooch......:jawdrop:

I think that local shop is telling massive porkies. I’d agree between the wars, and a typical design. It doesn’t look silver but the mark would be useful. Not diamonds.

Just curious, did they test the diamonds with a gem tester or the silver with acid?

Thanks, everyone! I'm not sure about the acid test, but they did use a small handheld device to identify the diamonds at a jeweler as well!

A solid back will test positive for diamonds, often using those hand held things.

Thanks, it might just be silver with rhinestones. I will see if I can get a better tester or look into it further.

I'm wearing a vintage sterling & rhinestone bracelet even as I type. It was my mother's, I think from the period when she would have been 16 - 20 years old, which was WWII. The stones have this same look: slightly yellowish here & there; no fiery flash anywhere. Clasp on the brooch suggests a bit earlier than my bracelet. Looks like a solidly made piece. Doesn't look like diamond.

    Agree with previous comments.
I have a few similar brooches and a few oldies with diamond chips.
This one definitely does not look like diamonds.
    Decent quality though.

A brooch with that many "diamonds" and unmarked would bother me.

Lark many real old jewelry was not marked.
Also, some marks got worn out over time or got lost because jewelry was altered over time.
So no marks is no big deal to me.

I’ve some unmarked Hoard diamond pieces. It’s really only after ww2 that it gets “universal” to mark.
