Featured Foo Dog Netsuke - Material? Need help with mark on bottom please.

Another piece from the never-ending estate auction.

This little Foo Dog who looks like he has measles or chickenpox is 1 1/4" to the top & is 1 5/8" by 1 3/8" across the bottom.

Am I seeing those pesky "lines" that I do not want to see?

There is a signature I believe on the bottom that hopefully, someone can read. Also, do I have it correctly oriented?

When you see equal sized holes like that, it's unlikely that it was meant to be functional.

 

I had a feeling it was more of a decorative netsuke rather than a functional one.

 

ahh those pesky ivory lines...............

 

If the schrager lines are real, are they really in THAT many random directions so closely knit??????

Very cute, although not a Foo lion. Another mythical beasty, and he means business.

 

Would this be considered a Foo Dog?

 

Maybe a foo Frog-dog?

 

Since I have no clue as to what kind of mythical beast we are talking about I am leaning towards offering them to the same guy who is buying the Guanyin or Kwan Yin figure just to make my life easier.
