I found this little treat today! It is a check writer/protector. It is from around 1916 and was produce by The Todd Protectorgraph Co. For once being a forensic document examiner came in handy when searching through antiques❤️❤️ and I didn’t have to ask y’all what it was

You enter in the dollar amount and the date and it imprints on the check with an inked ribbon. I have not tried to use this one yet but many of them also cut a pattern imprint into the check which is a security feature of each machine.
