Found this piece for $15 at a Garage Sale & I like it a lot. It's 13 3/4" by 11" image size, looks mixed media-acrylic,pencil.Can't find a signature yet (haven't removed from frame). It was framed locally in 2012,that's all I got so far.

Thanks AJ,just 'spoke to me' as they say.Happily my lady liked it too ! She kinda doesn't care what a piece is worth (unbelievable but true),if it talks to her-it's a keeper.

looks like there are quite a lot in the same vein
so you might have to open it (annoying i know)

i like it but dont know if the white mount does it any justice
    a bit too contrasting ?

I'm thinking the same thing Charlie-it's damned glaring.I've got a good Logan mat cutter in the vault & will have my wise lady's eye pick a color.
PS-Great Avatar Charlie,Bardot rarely looked more stratospheric.

maybe a gold/gilt would like nice

harder than it seems to cut a decent mount, with the tapered edges

its what i did with this old watercolour, looked horrible with a white background, just touched it up with a tiny bottle of gold enamel paint

I love a good abstract. I always change mats and frames on art, unless they are perfect of course. I also always take apart and clean them, youd be surprised how much dust gets inside.Id have bought that painting too.

That spray job looks quite good.I've got to take it apart anyway to search for attribution. Thanks Johnny !

Spray paint can be acidic so I would go with a new mat. I also think this one is too big but no changing that unless you change the frame. A lot of pieces get stuck with plain white mats because it got considered the modern gallery look. I hate it lol. Mats and frames should compliment and elevate your piece, not be stark....or match your couch. :hilarious:

Agree big time. When we moved into our new bought house 11 years ago we had a late 1950's 3 ft abstract that my old art Prof painted-we designed the living room around this piece. You just gradually collect piece after affordable piece.

When I was a framer it was a common issue. Someone would bring in a piece they loved and then say they wanted it to match their couch. The couch of course being a completely different, not matching color to their artwork. :bored: We'd humor them, but also show them an example that complimented the piece, and often get them to consider maybe they'd hang it somewhere else.
