Not antique or even vintage so sorry for that but I thought this was too fun not to share especially for UV lovers.
I was going through my hoard of necklaces with a UV torch (living the life in lockdown[IMG])and came across this interesting little gem. I have no idea why I bought this necklace last year as I don’t buy modern stuff but here it is. The square and red beads are glass, the black are hematite.
I put the torch on it and inside each square bead particles glowed. Turn the torch off and.......they keep glowing.......for 4-5 minutes.
Research tells me they are phosphorescent particles that get ‘excited’ under UV but then hold that state when the light is removed. The green photos below are taken with the UV light off after exposure for around 15 seconds. Ordinary household and LED light do the same to them but the reaction to UV is much stronger.
The red ones glow orange too so some reactive element in those too although it doesn’t show in the photo, think it may be cadmium? that glows orange.
Now I just need a disco to go to:wacky:
    Thanks for looking :)
