Quiet advice from a man who's been in the Marine Corps for 16 years so far (me). I would recommend you tread carefully with family contact if that is the path you are thinking of. Imagine the added pain if you provided the family with the watch, and years later they find out it is undeniably fake. I'm not saying that's the case; I would just be cautious with bringing the family into the mix. Things like this can turn out to be wonderful, and they can also turn out to be hurtful.

I have no intention of contacting the family.

For those who are into watches (I know nothing about them, never bought one to collect and/or sell): what would be an honest price?

It is impossible to even make out what the watch is apart from saying it appears to be early 20th C Swiss, based on the little that is discernable. The condition appears to be terrible, but that may be merely the photograps.

I contacted that association. They never replied.
I contacted the person who was selling it twice: no reply.

And the add was removed. Why? Sold or not? I just don't know.

I’m glad it is off the market, hopefully unsold. As I’ve already indicated, I think it is a fake/fantasy item. I can barely envision an individual despicable enough to download photos of deceased veterans and put them on objects to “enhance” their value. I’m wishing a very slow, painful death upon anyone engaged in such a monstrously thoughtless endeavor.
