[QUOTE="stracci, post: 5195251, member: 13814"]Hello to all my favorite experts! I found this huge serving spoon today at the antique mall for $10. I just had a gut feeling about it. It passes the acid test around 925. I have no idea how much it weighs, because it was more than my gram scale could handle. My scale maxes out at 100g., And this item caused it to say "over load". The amazing thing is that it is faintly etched on the back with "THR 1769". My question is....Could it really be that old? I can't find anything online that matches HCB as a maker's mark. I will take it to my local NA jeweler's supply shop, and if I ask nicely, they will weigh it for me on their scale. They sell sterling to local Native jewelers, so I think their scales are accurate. I took lots of photos, but because it is so big and curvy, I really couldn't capture the real essence of it. What do all of you think about age? Is it American? Is it a stew spoon? It is worn a bit thin on one edge of the bowl where a right handed person used it for a whole lot of stirring from the bottom of the pot! Thank you in advance for any and all replies!
