Possible a fire extinquiser. They were filled with retardant and thrown into fires.

Wait for others more knowledgeable in bottles to answer

    Hi,
I had the same thoughts as Clutteredcloset. Then I also remember targat balls for hunting practice that were filled with feathers around the same time.
Someone will have to look up the patent date I can not find my list anywhere today.

It’s a target ball, originally had feathers in it.

    Hi,
Here is a fire extinguisher from a Brooklyn home about the same period. It stood over the top of the stairs. The red paint has washed off over the years.
greg 001.JPG 002.JPG 003.JPG It hangs over the kitchen door in my house here at the Shore.

IMHO, target balls had a surface covered with little bumps or grooves so that shot would not slip off. I believe the above is a fire extinguisher device.

    Hi,
I have agree to say it is a target ball. If it was an extinguisher it would hang upside down and the writing would be upside down.

This bulb that I posted was the first one where I thought to myself....... I think I might keep this thing for myself. I also pocketed this little elephant (by "pocketed" I mean I can have anything in the collection, but I took a rebellious shine to it). And today I declared that a neat old telescope was mine too. One of the pieces of furniture that we moved to my parent's is replacing a modern display case which I will be getting. I'm thinking I will go shopping in my grandparents collection for neat stuff to put into it. :D

Your little elephant looks like Mexican onyx.

I have one of those that my cousin's friend picked up in Mexico. I keep meaning to give it to another friend who collects elephants.
